Our office, as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends that your child visit the dentist by his/her 1st birthday. You can make the first visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive. Your child should be informed of the visit and told that the dentist and their staff will explain all procedures and answer any questions. The less to-do concerning the visit, the better.

It is best if you refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as "needle", "shot", "pull", "drill" or "hurt". The office makes a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child.

Do I Stay With My Child During the Visit?

We encourage parents/guardians to accompany their children to observe their first dental experience.  We also encourage parents/guardians to accompany their child to each dental check-up until your child feels secure enough to come back on their own.  Please try not to be concerned if your child exhibits some negative behavior.  This is normal and will diminish with time.

If your child requires a return visit for restorative procedures, we ask that you remain in the waiting area where you can observe your child on our surveillance monitor.  Our office is highly experienced in helping children overcome anxiety.  We treat every child as an individual according to their anxiety level and special needs.  We proceed slowly and with care as we use “show and tell” and distraction methods, such as our overhead T.V.’s with children’s programming.

We feel that our main focus should be on your child at these restorative visits.  After years of experience, we find that this can be better achieved when the child is not distracted by a parent or guardian’s presence.

We strive to make each and every visit to our office a fun one!
